10 beaches within 35 minutes — bay to Atlantic

The Lay of the Land

Bay on one side.
Ocean on the other.

Eastham sits where Cape Cod narrows to barely a mile between Cape Cod Bay and the Atlantic. The bay side — warm, calm, shallow — is where families come to wade, dig clams, and watch the sun drop into the water. The Atlantic side is the National Seashore: wild, wave-battered, federally protected, and ranked among the finest beaches in the country. Both are within minutes of CapeBarn.

Beach Notes

National Seashore beaches charge $25/day for parking in summer — or free with an America the Beautiful annual pass.
Bayside beaches (Sunken Meadow, First Encounter, Brewster Flats) have the warmest water — ideal for young children.
Atlantic beaches (Coast Guard, Nauset, Marconi) have strong surf and rip currents — swim near lifeguards.
Low tide unlocks the tidal flats — check the tide chart before heading to Brewster, First Encounter, or Sunken Meadow.
The Beachcomber at Cahoon Hollow is the Cape's greatest beach bar. Go for sunset.
Bikes included with your stay — the Rail Trail reaches the National Seashore visitor center (8 min ride).
