From dune-top beach bars to late-night Provincetown — the Outer Cape after dark
After the Beach
The Cape's evening culture is quieter than the mainland, which is most of the point — but the bars and music venues that do exist here are worth knowing. The Beachcomber at Cahoon Hollow is one of the great beach bars in New England, full stop. The Woodshed in Brewster is a serious music room that has been packing crowds into a no-frills dive for decades. Drive north to Payomet for concerts inside the National Seashore, or all the way to Provincetown for a night on Commercial Street that ends at Crown & Anchor. None of this requires a plan. That's also the point.
Practical Notes
The Beachcomber at Cahoon Hollow is the Outer Cape's most iconic bar — arrive before 6pm on a summer weekend or the lot fills and access closes.
The Woodshed in Brewster is cash only and has no food — eat first, bring bills, and expect a cover charge when bands play.
Payomet in Truro books a serious summer concert season inside the National Seashore — check payomet.org for the full lineup before you go.
Provincetown rewards a late arrival — drive up for dinner on Commercial Street and stay for Crown & Anchor's evening shows.
Hog Island Beer Co. in Orleans pairs well with a Wellfleet oyster happy hour — check the website for current hours and live music nights.

Dive Bar · Live Music · Cash Only · Seasonal
The Cape's most celebrated no-frills music bar, attached to Uncle Pete's Chowder House on Route 6A. Seven nights a week in summer — serious bands, cheap draft beer, a cash-only bar, and a one-ton HVAC unit dangling from the ceiling above the dance floor. No food, no gimmicks, no pretension. If you want to understand what the Outer Cape sounds like after dark, this is the room.
Seasonal · Opens mid-April · Cash only
12 minutes south — craft beer and live sessions
Craft Brewery · Taproom · Oyster Bar · Live Music
A proper craft brewery taproom at 28 West Road in Orleans — local beer on draft, a raw oyster bar serving Wellfleet oysters, and a summer live music calendar in what they call an "Industrial Cape Cod Chic" space. A good first stop before dinner, or an evening on its own. Check the website for current hours and the reopening status after their 2025–26 renovation.

20 minutes north — outdoor concerts inside the National Seashore
Outdoor Concert Venue · Theatre · Seasonal
Inside the Cape Cod National Seashore's Highlands Center — a 110-acre former Air Force station in North Truro — Payomet puts on one of the most distinctive concert seasons on the Outer Cape. Americana, jazz, reggae, folk, and rock under a tent in the pines, with theatre and comedy in the mix. The Cirque by the Sea circus troupe is based here too. Check the summer calendar; the lineup rewards the short drive north.

35 minutes north — the end of the Cape, and the beginning of the night
Entertainment Complex · Drag · Cabaret · Nightclub
Provincetown's landmark entertainment complex at 247 Commercial Street — six bars and multiple stages under one roof, in a building dating to the mid-1800s. The Paramount Club hosts Broadway performers, drag headliners, and cabaret acts seven nights a week in summer. The Wave Bar opens onto Commercial Street. The Vault goes late. Come for dinner, stay for the show, walk out into the harbour fog at midnight. There is nowhere else like it on the East Coast.
